Spring is in the air and it’s the perfect time to get started on your spring home maintenance tasks. Here are some of our favorite spring home maintenance tips to get your home looking as bright and sunny as the outdoors!
Check Your Roof
Your roof gets a workout over the course of the winter, as ice and snow pile on top and freeze and thaw day after day. Your roof will also be getting a workout during the many spring showers of the coming spring months. Get on a ladder and examine your roof shingles to see if any are damaged or missing. If you have an older roof, it might be time to consider a replacement. Anything damaged should be fixed by a professional roofing contractor as quickly as possible.
Clean Your Gutters
Gutters accumulate leaves and debris throughout the fall and winter. Every season, as part of your home maintenance checklist, you should clean out your gutters. Gutters that are weighted down or clogged won’t do a good job of keeping water away from your home and can lead to flooding and pooling in your yard. Check your downspouts to make sure that they are still pointed away from your foundation.
Visit the Low Areas of Your Yard
Lower areas of your yard can have pooling and puddles during the rainy spring months. If there are any spots that gather water, fix them before the rains begin! Use compacted soil to fill in these spots and prevent any foundation damage.
Fix Santa’s Spot
If you use your fireplace over the course of the winter months, make sure that you take the time to have it professionally cleaned as part of your spring home maintenance. Have the entire flue of your chimney and top inspected by a professional chimney sweep. This will clear out the debris and dust of winter and prepare it for the months where it won’t be used.
