Mistakes That Can Happen During a Window Installation

Here are some of the mistakes that can be made during a window installation.

Are you getting some new windows installed for your home? If you are, then you want to ensure that the installation goes smoothly. Unfortunately, there are mistakes that can happen during the installation process. Knowing about these possible pitfalls beforehand gives you plenty of time to prevent them. Here are some of the mistakes that can be made during a window installation.

Not Getting the Right Size of Rough Opening

The requirements for a rough opening will depend on what kind of window you’re getting, as well as your manufacturer. Windows can be built so that they fit practically any rough opening space, but a lot of manufacturers will create what are considered to be “standard” sizes, and these don’t cost as much as it would to create custom windows.

Incorrect Size Jambs

If windows are ordered with jambs already attached, you’ll want to give the jambs more width if the interior wall surface is going to have more than half an inch of drywall. The width of your window jamb should also be increased if you’re going to install windows onto any sheathing that is a minimum of half an inch in thickness.

There Isn’t a Back Slope

A rough opening’s sill will need to be sloped in order to redirect water away from your building in the event that water starts getting inside. One of the mistakes that can happen during a window installation is when a back slope isn’t included, which allows water to pool in your house. Make sure to have a back slope installed to give your house extra water protection.

Insufficient Flashing Adherence

One of the other window installation mistakes you may find is that your flashing isn’t properly sticking when it’s applied. There are some membranes and tapes that don’t adhere properly when the weather gets too cold. That’s why it’s important to follow manufacturer guidelines for proper flashing adherence in the event of cold weather. This may include having primers added before the flashing gets installed.
